Fake prisoners: SHC seeks record of jails over petition

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday directed the Sindh jails’ administration to submit a complete record of fake prisoners in jails of Sindh province by March 13.

Headed by Justice Munib Akhtar, the two-member bench took up for hearing a petition filed by the Ansar Barney Trust seeking inquiry into fake prisoners in the Sindh jails.

The petitioner took the plea that 41 fake prisoners were kept in the jails.

Filed a reply on behalf of the Jail administration, the Jails DIG and Central Jail superintendent informed that some prisoners had been released and the remaining were on a bail from the list of prisoners presented in the court adding that there was not a single fake prisoner in the jail.

The court also sought a reply from the government about a biometric system and adjourned the hearing till March 13.
