A meeting of the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI)’s steering committee was held on Saturday at the PKLI Secretariat under the chairmanship of Punjab Minister for Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Khawaja Salman Rafique.

PKLI CEO Prof Saeed Akhter, representatives from LESCO, Sui Gas, LDA, IDAP, WASA, P&D and the health and finance departments were also present in the meeting. The meeting was called in order to discuss progress since the last steering committee meeting.

Infrastructure Development Authority of Punjab (IDAP) briefed the meeting on specifications for the construction of buildings, including the on-going construction works, footing status, concrete work, and various packages into which the construction is divided.

Salman Rafique showed concern over the completion of utility services for the hospital and emphasized the importance of timely completion. He said that nothing should be kept in limbo due to the reliance of one activity on others and everything must be completed without delays.

Other issues such as the procurement of medical equipment, provision of utilities, and safety and care, for the PKLI were also deliberated upon. Issues relating to public transportation, direction boards, and telephone lines were also brought to light. Provision of dedicated telephone lines is being planned to provide unrestricted access to the hospital.

Furthermore, LESCO briefed the meeting regarding a grid station to be imported from China soon to ensure uninterrupted distribution of electricity. Prof Saeed Akhter said that toll free fax line services must be introduced to facilitate common citizens.

The PKLI CEO also applauded the hard work and dedication with which all departments were working in sync.
