KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar on Saturday said that the area around Edulji Dinshaw Road, Karachi Port Trust (KPT) Sports Complex and Charya Chowk would be made encroachments free and beautified.
He expressed these views during a visit to Nehr-e-Khayam, Custom House, Charya Chowk and other areas on Friday, said a statement.
The mayor said that the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board have been contacted for the repairing of sewerage leakage on Edulji Street adding that the extension of Nehr-e-Khayam has been underway, no pressure would be accepted in removal of encroachments around it.
DMC East Chairman Moeed Anwer, the Technical Services director general, Parks director general and other officers accompanied him on this occasion.
The mayor was welcomed by Customs chief collector Zahid Khokhar at the Custom House.
During the briefing regarding the Custom House, the mayor was informed that it collected 42 percent revenue of the whole country and provided 25-30 percent GDP of the country.
Consultant Shahid Abdullah informed the mayor that the road alongside Nehr-e-Khayam would be extended with construction of pavements and installation of benches around it.
The mayor urged the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to take action against encroachments.
The citizens should also play their role in eradication of this menace from the city, he concluded.
