SEHWAN: Senior Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) official Raja Umar Khattab dispelled initial reports that the suicide bomber was a female.
While talking to local media, he said that the evidence suggested the suicide bomber was male. The long hair found at the blast site most likely belonged to one of the dervishes at the shrine.
Earlier, the investigation teams from Karachi arrived at the site to probe the deadly suicide blast.
Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) Hyderabad Khadim Hussain Rind told media that more than 300 people were injured in the explosion; the latest in a series of terrorist attacks in the country.
He further informed that the suicide blast occurred at the main gate of the shrine by a bomber who covered himself with a burka.
Initial investigation suggested the involvement of female suicide bomber. It also revealed nut-bolts were used in the bomb along with the explosive material of at least eight kilogrammes.
The CTD official said that the deaths and injuries were caused due to the ball bearings present in the suicide jacket.
An initial report compiled by bomb disposal squad has been sent to high-level officials. Forensic teams have collected DNA samples from bodies not identifiable.
