KARACHI: Sindh Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla, on Thursday, said that the Excise and Taxation Department has collected Rs 31,453 million in past seven months in various heads from July 2016 to January 2017 that is Rs 45,58 millions more as compared to last year collections in the same period.
He expressed these views while presiding over a departmental meeting here in his office.
Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Secretary Abdul Haleem Shaikh and Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Director-General Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui also attended the meeting.
Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui told the meeting that Rs 3,298 million were collected in term of motor vehicle tax, Rs 22,109 million in Infrastructure Cess, Rs 238 million in professional tax, Rs 1,359 m in property tax while the remaining amount in other heads was collected.
Mukesh Kumar Chawla was also informed that during the same period in last year Rs 26,894 million were collected in various heads.
The provincial minister, while expressing satisfaction over tax collections, directed the officers concerned to take measures for speeding the collection of the taxes adding that there was a dire need to improve property tax collections.
He also directed the officials to remain humble and cooperative while performing their official assignments because they were government servants and they must serve the masses.
The minister said that before June we had to achieve the target of 100% recovery, and he would not tolerate any lethargic attitude in this regard.
