LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Imran Ismail has alleged that Punjab law minister Rana Sanaullah has deep links with different terrorist organisations operating all over the province.

Speaking on a private TV channel, Imran Ismail said Punjab is currently a safe haven for terrorists and that it was common knowledge that government ministers are in contact with these militants. The PTI member also claimed that the relationship between these people and the government go so deep that cabinet members often “give rides to these militants in their cars.”

The comments come almost in the immediate aftermath of the terrorist attack on Mall Road outside the Punjab assembly where 13 people, including policemen, were killed and 80 were injured.

When questioned whether political parties that spoke out against corruption so vehemently should also raise their voice in equal measure in regards to terrorism, the PTI stalwart said that the armed forces were doing an admirable job in eradicating terrorism from the country and that all political parties should limit themselves to merely morally supporting the actions of the armed forces.

He made sure to add that from somewhere or the other, the root cause of terrorism could also be traced back to some form of corruption; as such attacks were not possible without any financial backing. Imran Ismail also raised questions regarding the government response to the new wave of terror recently spreading in the country.

Responding to a question asking what the most effective method of eliminating terrorism in the country was, Imran Ismail demanded that a uniform operation on the lines of Zarb-e-Azab be conducted not only in Punjab but the entire country to eradicate terrorism.
