KHANEWAL: At least six terrorists were killed in a shootout at Chak 98, claimed Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on early Thursday morning.
According to a CTD spokesperson, acting on an information of presence of ten terrorists, the personnel raided the site, further adding that the deceased were affiliated with the banned terror group, Al-Ahrar – the said group took responsibility for suicide blast in Lahore in which at least 14 people, including senior police officers, were martyred.
A heavy cache of weapons, including grenades, guns and detonators were recovered during the operation.
According to hospital officials, as many as 46 injured were brought to the Mayo hospital after Lahore blast, while 28 injured were being treated at Mayo hospital.
The incident occurred as hundreds of chemists protested a new law near the Punjab provincial assembly building, Rana Sanaullah, the provincial law minister confirmed. The law minister, while appearing on news channel talk show, said the attacker had been identified.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah on Monday said that the attacker involved in the blast near Punjab Assembly in Lahore has been identified.
He said that the attacker entered the site of the protest on foot.
Sanaullah said that the attacker’s target was police personnel.
He said that at that time, there was a van nearby which faced the brunt of the explosion, without which the impact of the attack would have been far more devastating.
At least 14 people, including senior police officers, were martyred when a suicide bomber hit close to the Punjab Assembly in Lahore when hundreds of demonstrators had gathered for a protest on Monday, officials said.
The powerful explosion also left dozens injured, with reports of more than 60 wounded being treated at different hospitals in the eastern city of Lahore.
