Govt strives to eliminate polio

Karachi Commissioner Ejaz Ahmed Khan on Friday said that the government was striving to eliminate polio and that Pakistan would soon become a polio-free country through continuous and determined efforts.

He said this while chairing a review meeting at his office regarding the arrangements of the anti-polio campaign that is to be launched in the city from February 13, said a statement.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of the anti-polio campaign which had been launched in January 2017 and appreciated the results.

The commissioner said that special attention was being paid to target children who were being missed in earlier vaccination campaigns.

Coordinator of Emergency Operation Center Fayyaz Jatoi appreciated the teamwork of the polio workers while briefing the commissioner.

Karachi Polio Task Force Coordinator Dr Nusrat Ali briefed the meeting about the arrangements of the anti-polio campaign. He said that all arrangements had been finalised to launch the six-day campaign in the city’s 123 union councils and that the implementation would be ensured in all union councils.

“Over 36,600 children will be administered polio vaccine drops by more than 1200 teams,” he said.

Karachi-II Additional Commissioner Farhan Ghani, all deputy commissioners, health department officials, UNICEF representatives, WHO representatives, police officials, Rangers officials and Rotary Club members were also present during the meeting.
