Woman killed during fake exorcism in DG Khan

Two fake pirs or ‘spiritual healers’ carried out a fake exorcism which led to the death of a woman in Dera Ghazi Khan on Wednesday.

According to details, the incident took place at Naurangabad when Nazar Hussain, a resident of Sajjadabad, took his wife Surya Begum to the area for spiritual healing. Amaanullah and Abdul Hameed, two men who claimed to be spiritual healers, told Nazar that his wife was in need of an exorcism.

The exorcism was carried out by tying Suriya Begum to a tree, beating her with sticks, then tying her upside-down and throwing smoke at her.

According to the husband, he tried to stop the exorcism after watching his wife screaming in agony, but both the fake pirs did not lend ear to his request.

Suriya Begum was taken to the hospital in a critical condition, but doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.

Police stated that a case would be registered against Amaanullah and Abdul Hameed only after the postmortem report was finalised.
