Former Pakistan coach and fast bowling sensation Waqar Younus has distanced himself from Wasim Akram’s statement regarding events that lead to Indian spinner Anil Kumble taking a historic 10 wickets in an innings.
Yesterday had been the 18th anniversasry of Kumble’s historic 10/74 at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in the second innings of the second test against Pakistan 1999. Kumble became only the second bowler to achieve the feat in test cricket following Jim Laker.
Former India opener Virendar Sehwag had tweeted an old newspaper article quoting Waqar’s bowling partner Wasim Akhter in commemoration of the day. Sehwag praised the ex Pakistan skipper for his sportsmanship in the tweet.
Kismat ke aage ,all saazish fail.
Well done Wasim bhai.
What a day it was at the Kotla by Anil bhai. pic.twitter.com/xDzMd39XOq— Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) February 7, 2017
Waqar Younus has since then disputed Wasim’s tale, saying “this never happened.” The Burewala express further joked that “age is catching up with Wasim bhai.”
