Islamabad Police has found a body of a teenage girl in the wee hours of Wednesday from a dense forest near Simli Dam. According to Nilor Police, the girl could have been mentally ill. Police said that the girl was aged between 16 and 17 and apparently there was no sign of physical or sexual abuse on her body.

However, the case was handed over to the homicide unit for further investigation.

According to Nilor Police Station SHO Fayaz Tanoli, the postmortem report will take two months as the detailed report is compiled in Lahore.

He said that the dead body was found near a shrine and suspected she might have suffered an epileptic attack.

Tanoli said, “She was found strongly gripping a tree branch, which was could be a case of murder so it cannot be said that the 17 year old girl was killed outside and then thrown into the woods.

He said that Islamabad Police has found nothing on her; no ID card, no wallet, no mobile phone or any other thing which could identify her. The dead body seemed 12 to 18 hours old when found.

We contacted families who reported missing girls in different police stations but no family was able to identify her. When questioned that why police have not approached the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) for girl’s identity, Tanoli said that the girl was underage.

Another police official said that she might be strangled to death in the forest as there were some signs found on her mouth and a slight mark was found on her neck.

Despite several attempts, the investigation officer was not available for comments.

Further investigations are underway regarding this incident.
