NEW YORK: Jewish clerics also stepped in to protest against Trump’s travel ban on Muslims.

At least 200 religious scholars around the US gathered at 88th Street and Broadway in New York to hold a demonstration against Trump.

The protesters marched towards the Trump International Hotel and Tower at Columbus Circle in Manhattan and staged a sit-in. They also blocked the road for traffic.

The protesters were brandishing signs with messages like “welcome refugees” while hitting drums and tambourines.

Police while taking action arrested 20 rabbis.

The protesters were of the view that refugees were also barred from travelling in US 1924 due to which hundreds of people lost their lives.

“We remember our history, and we remember that the borders of this country closed to us in 1924 with very catastrophic consequences during the Holocaust,” Rabbi Jacobs said as quoted by The New York Times.

“We know that some of the language that’s being used now to stop Muslims from coming in is the same language that was used to stop Jewish refugees from coming.”

On the other hand, various human rights organizations including Amnesty International protested outside the headquarters of homeland security.
