LONDON: Rafael Nadal will be in action at the Aegon Championship at Queen’s Club ahead of his campaign for the Wimbledon title alongside world number 1 Andy Murray.

Nadal missed last year’s tournament at Queen’s as a result of his wrist injury which haunted him throughout the previous year. He has, however, shown that he is still a force to be reckoned with after his stellar performance in the Australian Open.

The Spaniard previously won the tournament in 2008 before his Wimbledon title victory over Roger Federer. “I am very happy to be coming back to Queen’s in June,” the 14-time grand slam champion has said. Tournament director Stephen Farrow said: “Rafa is one of the greatest tennis players of all time and one of the most popular ever to play at the Queen’s Club.”

Nadal has joined defending champion and World number 1 Andy Murray in announcing his participation in the tournament, which is due to start on June 19. Praising the tournament organisers and describing the British crowds as “fantastic,” Nadal said that this was the best way for him to prepare for the upcoming Wimbledon tournament.
