Anti-Encroachment drive in full swing in Capital

After giving a 3-day ultimatum to demolish all kiosks built in violation of Capital Development Authority (CDA) and other encroachments voluntarily, the enforcement directorate of the authority, in an anti-encroachment campaign has removed 1083 encroachments in 65 operations conducted in federal capital during the last one month.

The anti-encroachment drive was started after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took serious notice. The PM, then summoned the CDA administration and the chairman to give a presentation over policies for encroachments, sanitation and municipal services. The chairman then gave presentation to the PM and assured him to change the face of capital in 90 days.

As per the 90-days plan, the CDA first warned all the violators and encroachers to demolish the encroachments voluntarily in 3 days by publishing ads in print media. Following this, the enforcement directorate had started a grand operation and demolished more than one thousand encroachments in first thirty days.

 

In an ongoing anti-encroachment drive, 2 boundary walls, 22 kiosks, 38 rooms, 2 shops, and 4 Suzuki vans have been captured, 17 building material depot, 15 fruit and vegetable setups, 25 RCC factories of blocks Pipes and rolls, 7 hedge/fences and 1 shed have been demolished during last week.

During the operation last week, the enforcement directorate sealed one plot of the nursery and possession was handed over to environment directorate. Land of 7 plots retrieved from illegal possession and 11 illegal water connections were also disconnected.

In a survey by the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) Directorate of Market and Road Maintenance, in the markets of F and G sectors pointed out 806 encroachments in various locations, including footpaths and parking areas.

 

When contacted, Mayor and CDA Chairman Sheikh Anser Aziz told Pakistan Today that the anti-encroachment drive is in full swing without any fear or favor. He said that the officials of enforcement directorate are given free hand to demolish every encroachment and violation without any fear.

“The anti-encroachment drive in its first month demolished the encroachments in sector, F, G and I. The CDA in its promised 90 days will also upgrade the municipal services and try to cater to every complaint received by the complaint unit.”
