Chairman of the Steering Committee for the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train Project (OLMT), Khawaja Ahmad Hassan said on Sunday that 65 percent of the work on the OLMT had been completed.
Talking to the APP, Khawaja Ahmad Hassan said that after the completion of this project, the facility of safe, modern and economically transport would be available to citizens.
He said that so far 65% of the civil work of the project from Dera Gujjran, G.T Road to Chauburji had been completed, 50% of the work on Package-2 (P-2) from Chauburji to Ali Town had been completed, and 56% of the work on the Depot near Dera Gujjran had been completed.
“The project will serve as a precedent for launching other such projects in the country,” he said.
To a question, Hassan said that the metro train system was successfully functioning in 153 cities of the world and the start of its operation in Lahore would include the provincial metropolis in that list.
“Utility services departments have been asked to constitute mobile teams and to remain present on the spot during the execution of civil works for ensuring uninterrupted supply of these services,” he added.
He said that the immediate provision of electricity connections to WASA’s lift stations at Lake Road near the PIA Planetarium and at Lakshmi Chowk was being ensured.
To another question, he said that the Lahore Waste Management Company had been asked to formulate its operational plan for cleanliness of train tracks and stations after the start of its operation.
“The project director has also been directed to make special arrangements for the removal of debris from Multan Road from Chauburji to Ali Town for facilitating smooth flow of traffic at this stretch,” he said.
