World Wetlands Day: Speakers highlight importance of environment, wetlands

 

 

The World Wetlands Day was observed on Saturday with the aim to educate the masses regarding importance of wetland and its positive impact on human life.

In this connection, Sindh Wild Life Department, non-government

organisations (NGOs) World Wide Fund (WWF) and Inter Global Human Development Society (IGHDS) jointly held a rally from Labe-e-Mehran, Globe Chowk to Indus Dolphin Conservation Center to highlight the importance of the day and create awareness among the people about the importance of wetlands, rivers and fisheries.

A large number of social developers, educationists, school children and journalists participated. It also provided a great opportunity to students, teachers and professionals to participate in a positive mix of activities, that is, education, entertainment and promotion.

Students from four public sector schools, all located near Sukkur area participated in the day long activity. They presented their views about importance of environment, wetlands and mangroves through posters and speeches.

Representatives of the WWFP talked about the importance of wetlands and mangroves for the better environment as well as humanity. He said that wetlands are an important part of the ecological landscape as they are a source of fish and water. Beautiful wetlands are a great resort for tourism and play an important role in the over-all environmental conditions.

They further said wetlands in the country are not restricted to any particular group.
