Due to enhanced vigilance to check smuggling along Pakistan’s borders, Punjab Rangers foiled yet another attempt of liquor smuggling on Saturday evening.

Rangers personnel spotted two individuals moving towards the border from India in Wagah sector, and warned them to stop, at which point the men started firing on the Rangers. The Rangers responded in kind, prompting the men to escape by taking advantage of the darkness and wild growth.

36 bottles of liquor were recovered in a search of the area after the incident.

A case has been registered by the police and efforts are ongoing to identify Pakistani links of the smugglers.

Punjab Rangers Director General Azhar Naveed Hayat appreciated the quick response of the troops who managed to thwart smuggling and reiterated the resolve to stop all illegal cross activities.
