China supports Pakistan in independently formulating and implementing counter-terrorism measures and conducting international counter-terrorism cooperation on the basis of mutual respect.

This was stated here by a Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang at a regular press conference.  To a question about Hafiz Saeed’s arrest, he said they had noted relevant reports. Pakistan has made enormous efforts as well as sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and extremism.

To another question, Lu Kang said, at the invitation of Syed Tariq Fatemi, a special assistant to the Palestinian Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Cheng Guoping, the state commissioner for Counter-Terrorism and Security Matters of China will visit Pakistan very soon, exchanging views with relevant departments in Pakistan.

This will help to enhance counter-terrorism and security cooperation between the two countries, he added.

To another question about South China Sea, the spokesman said, “China’s position on the South China Sea issue is very clear and also consistent. China has indisputable sovereignty over the relevant islands and reefs in the sea and adjacent waters.

China will firmly safeguard its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests in the South China Sea. We are also committed to maintaining peace and stability of the relevant areas alongside regional countries. We hope that the non-regional country can respect the common interests and aspirations of the regional countries and help preserve a peaceful, stable and secure environment for the region since it serves the interests of all parties.”

Replying to another question regarding China-US relations, he said that high-level communication between the two sides is of great significance in moving forward the sound development of China-US ties. I can assure you that China and the US are in close contact right now.”
