Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar reviewed the preparations for the upcoming International Naval Exercise AMAN 2017 Wednesday and directed the relevant departments to ensure the finalisation of all arrangements for the event.
Addressing a meeting at his office, the mayor said that the naval exercise was an important event for Karachi for which all concerned organisations would have to work jointly, said a statement here.
He said that the arrival of international delegates for these exercises was proof of their trust in the country, and now “we have to work for the beautification of the city”.
The meeting was attended by Karachi Deputy Mayor Dr Arshad Abdullah Vohra, Municipal Commissioner Dr Badar Jameel, Additional Secretary Niaz Ahmed Soomro, chairmen of different DMCs, deputy commissioners, and representatives of the Pakistan Navy, KWSB, K-Electric, cantonment boards, and other organisations.
Speaking on the occasion, the mayor said, “We all have to make it sure to finish all preparations for this event on time.”
He directed all the departments to carry out work irrespective of their jurisdiction. Necessary arrangements were desired by the chair to be carried out including the beautification of the whole route, including the removal of encroachments, proper cleaning, covering of potholes, trimming trees, fixing of kerb stones, and the removal of unpleasant wires and cables alongside the route.
Wasim Akhtar said that all possible efforts should be made so that participants of these exercises get a good impression of the city.
He said that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation would carry out the beautification of Shara-e-Faisal, M T Khan Road, and West Wharf Road for this event.
