Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar took notice of the news about the burial of dead bodies in already filled graveyards of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and directed officials to immediately close all such graveyards for burial.
He also directed stern action against those grave diggers who were found violating this order by demolishing old graves for new burials, said a statement on Wednesday.
Following the directive of the mayor, burial in Azeempura Graveyard in Shah Faisal Colony and Colony Gate Graveyard was banned by the KMC, and Jamia Millia Graveyard was put forth as an alternative.
Likewise, Chakra Goth Graveyard was presented as an alternative to the closed Moula Bux Korangi No 6 Graveyard, Malir Cantt graveyard in lieu of the closed Model Colony graveyard, and the Mohammad Shah graveyard in lieu of the closed Paposh Nagar and Yaseenabad graveyards.
