KARACHI: The underground water level in Karachi has declined from 600 feet to 1,200 feet in last three years.

This was stated by Bore and Bore Company’s Project Manager Hydro-geologist Israr Hussain while talking to APP on Monday.

Hussain said that the Bore and Bore company has conducted a survey of the industrial areas of the city.

He said, “The increasing number of industrial establishments in SITE and Korangi and increased consumption of underground water by these industries and lesser rains are the cause of decline in underground water level”.     He said that the government should take alternate measures as wide- spread use and depletion of underground water could cause serious problems.

Hussain informed that the Bore and Bore Company along with Engro has been working on Thar Coal field.

The underground water level in Tharparkar is 600 to 700 feet. “There is enough quantity of water available in Thar, which can be supplied to its surrounding areas as well”, he added.
