LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday cancelled the bail granted to Adnan Sanaullah, the prime suspect in the gang-rape of a 14-year old female student.
Justice Shahid Hameed Dar passed the orders while allowing an appeal filed by the Punjab Prosecution Department against grant of bail to the accused by the sessions court.
The Punjab prosecution department had submitted that the sessions court granted bail to Adnan Sanaullah after the victim submitted an affidavit in favour of the suspect.
The department submitted that affidavit filed by the girl was a result of pressure exerted on her family by the suspects.
Whereas, it said, the girl in her first statement before a judicial magistrate had maintained that Adnan Sanaullah was the prime suspect in the case.
The court was requested to declare the affidavit submitted by the victim as null and void and cancel the bail granted to the suspect by the sessions court.
During the course of hearing, Additional Prosecutor General Punjab Abdul Samad submitted that the accused failed to appear before the court despite the issuance of arrest warrants in the appeal.
He submitted that the accused misused the bail relief and as per police report, he had fled the country. He pleaded with the court to allow the appeal and cancel the bail granted to the accused by the sessions court.
At this, the court agreeing with the arguments of the prosecution cancelled the bail of the accused.
Race Course police had registered gang rape case against Adnan Sanaullah and other suspects who allegedly raped a girl student in a Mall Road guest house in 2016.
