An unreliable online source recently claimed that the social networking site ‘WhatsApp’ has announced that the next version of the application is going to include the option of being notified if someone screenshots your conversation.
The latest feature that was expected to commence from February 5, would notify you each time someone took a screenshot of your conversation. Several people on social media expressed their viewpoints on whether this feature is harmful or beneficial.
The online source that revealed this news said that the online messaging service’s “CEO” had confirmed and announced the news himself.
The website stated: “The functioning is simple, just like the blue tick: You will have the option activated by default. If it’s checked, you’ll be notified if someone screenshots your conversation, and others will be notified if you screenshot theirs. If it’s unchecked, no one gets notified”, stated Koum.
Rumours regarding frequently used mobile applications have become common on social media. A similar rumour about Instagram surfaced last year on social media as well, where users would receive a notification each time someone took a screenshot of your photo or conversation.
However, it is important to note that announcements made via such unreliable platforms should always be verified first.

Facebook said recently that it will introduce tools to prevent fake news stories from spreading on its platform, an about-face in response to rising criticism that it did not do enough to combat the problem during the US presidential campaign.
The social network company stressed that the new features are part of an ongoing process to refine and test how it deals with fake news. It has faced complaints this year involving how it monitors and polices content produced by its 1.8 billion users.
