Minister presents dossier on HR violation in IOK

Pakistan’s Minister for Commerce Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan met with the newly-elected President of European Parliament Mr Antonio Tajani here in Brussels today and apprised him on the human rights violations in the Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) and presented him a dossier on the atrocities being committed by the occupying forces there.

The minister felicitated Mr Tajani on his recent election as the president of European parliament. Mr Tajani is an Italian politician who was elected to this position last week. Before that he was one of the 14 vice-presidents of the European Parliament and the European Commissioner for Industry and Entrepreneurship.

The Minister discussed with him positive impact of GSP+ on Pakistan and EU as the mutual trade has increased on both sides. He apprised him on the positive changes in Pakistan regarding security, economy and social sector reforms. He said that the improved security situation and consolidation of democracy provided for carrying out necessary reforms which resulted in economic growth of Pakistan. International institutions have revised the targets for Pakistan’s economic growth on the higher side for the year 2017 as well.

He said that with the strengthening of democracy in Pakistan law and order situation has also improved and legislation has taken place for the protection of human rights, particularly those of children, women and minorities. He also pointed out that improvement in internal security has led to the revival of investor’s confidence in Pakistan and many European business concerns have now started investing in Pakistan.
