National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhary said on Wednesday that
The corruption rate in the country was declining due to steps taken by the NAB against the corrupt.
Talking to the media during an annual review meeting regarding the performance of the regional office held at the NAB Punjab office here on Wednesday, he said that international agencies have also acknowledged the decline in corruption in Pakistan in their data.
The chairman said that Pakistan had improved its position by nine points in the international ranking in a report presented by Transparency International.
He said that Pakistan’s ranking in the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) had improved to 61st from 52nd this year, adding that Pakistan was prominent in South Asian countries in its efforts against corruption.
The NAB chairman said that the country was running speedily towards being a corruption-free country, while the NAB was focusing on awareness, preventive measures, and enforcement of laws so that the corruption could be nipped in the bud.
“Several South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries are interested in receiving guidance from Pakistan for the elimination of corruption,” Chairman Zaman said.
