Terror bid foiled: Two suicide jackets recovered from mosque in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar police on Monday recovered two suicide jackets from a mosque on the outskirts of the capital city.

However, no arrests were made.

An official at the Paharipura police station told media that acting on a tip-off police personnel checked Abu Bakar mosque near Benazir Hospital along with the motorway. He said the cops recovered two suicide jackets containing about five-kilogramme explosives from the room of the prayer leader of the mosque. However, the prayer leader was not present in the room at the time of the raid.

SSP operations Sajjad Khan said the police defused the explosives, adding a search operation was also being conducted in the area to arrest the culprits. He said police’s timely action saved the provincial capital from an untoward incident. The Counter-Terrorism Department registered FIR and started investigations.
