Minister stresses need to control population

Provincial Minister for Population Welfare Mir Mumtaz Hussain Jakhrani has said that an educated, highly productive, healthy population is more important than a population with rapid growth that leads to poverty, illiteracy, anxiety and extremism.

“We are coordinating with all stakeholders and opinion leaders including Ulema, Mashaikh, politicians, teachers, and others to achieve our targets,” he said.

The minister was addressing a briefing session for Sindh Assembly members on Monday.

The population minister requested all MPAs to use their position and influence in their constituencies and persuade people to visit Family Welfare Centres. He added that all MPAs were also welcome to visit the centres and submit their suggestions and complaints regarding the facilities if they had any.

“It is our responsibility to make this country prosper. If we want sustainable development we must have control our population in proportion to our resources, at least.  This is a very crucial and significant cause, to which Mohtarma Shaheed Benazir Bhutto was also committed.” Jakhrani said.

The briefing was attended by Deputy Speaker Shehla Raza, Nisar Khoro, Nasir Shah, Sikandar Mendhro, Sikandar Shoro, Khatumal Jeva, Murtaza Baloch, Erum Khalid, Rehana Laghari, Robina Kaimkhani, Samar Ali Khan, Azra Fazal Pechuhu, and others.
