Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Barrister Zafarullah Khan has said that a lack of real ijtehad has deprived Muslims of leading a peaceful and prosperous life.

“Muslims need to focus on ijtehad for working out the solutions to contemporary issues and meeting our current challenges,” he said.

He was speaking at the launch ceremony of his new book on Islam in the contemporary world, titled “A New Narrative”, held at the Pakistan National Council for Arts (PNCA), with Advisor to the PM on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz as the chief guest.

Barrister Zafarullah Khan said that Muslims were stuck in the past and had, therefore, failed to ensure a truly Islamic modern existence.

He said that Islam could have led to the development of such an existence if properly understood and practised by its followers.

Summarising the theme of the book, Khan said, “Let Muslims rise out of their slumber and reform themselves for a better living or wait for God’s decision.”

Advisor to the PM on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, congratulated Zafarullah Khan and appreciated the points raised by the author in his book.

Khurshid Nadeem, Salaman Akram Raja, Khalid Masood and Ahmed Javed also dilated on “A New Narrative”.
