The Metropolitan Corporation of Islamabad (MCI) has decided to reduce the supply of water to the city
from 34 million gallons to 24 million gallons per day to maintain the water level in the Simly Dam for the ongoing winter season.
Due to a long drought, the water level in the Simly dam has decreased significantly and the decision to reduce the water supply has been taken to ensure smooth water supply in the future, an MCI press release said.
However, it is expected that recent rain-spells will help improve the water level of the dam.
Earlier, the MCI increased water supply from the dam due to reduced supply from Khanpur Dam and complaints regarding dysfunctional tube wells.
Due to the cold weather, consumption of water in the city had also been reduced. Moreover, the supply of water from other sources, including Khanpur Dam, has been normalized, and therefore, it was decided that water supply from Simly should be reduced, the press release added.
It expected that winter rains will enhance Simly Dam’s water level and that the supply to the city would be normalized.
The MCI has also appealed to the residents of the federal capital to take care while using water so as not to waste it.
