Alumni hail CJ for taking notice of illegal occupation of QAU land

The Quaid-i-Azam University Alumni Association appreciated Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar for taking notice of the illegal occupation of Quaid-e-Azam University lands.

President QAU Alumni Association Sikandar Ahmed Rai and Secretary General Murtaza Noor on Sunday in a joint statement hoped that the issue would be resolved soon and that the illegal occupation of the land will end.

They also extended their thanks to all stakeholders, and especially the media, for highlighting the issue.

The administration alleged that the university had paid for 1709 acres of land and though the area was handed over to the university in the year 1972, its vacant possession was not given by the CDA.

The university was continuously facing land grabbing and encroachments, besides the settlements which were already there since the original land allocations in 1967 and 1972.

Furthermore, till today, the university has lost control of over 600 acres of its estate and if land encroachments and illegal occupation of the university’s estate are not checked, then in the future there may not be a university campus worth the name, an application by the university to the court said.

The application also highlighted that the alleged land grabbers and the illegal occupants were politically influential people, making the situation even worse for the university.

The application further stated that university had approached almost every authority to help them resolve the issue but in vain.

Taking the cognizance of the issue, the chief justice of Pakistan has called for detailed reports from the CDA chairman and the interior ministry secretary within three days.
