Punjab government to increase development budget for local bodies

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday presided over a high-level meeting to review development budget for the local bodies.

Provincial Ministers Rana Sanuallah, Manshaullah Butt, Malik Nadeem Kamran, Kh. Imran Nazir, Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, MNAs including Hamza Shahbaz, Mehar Ishtiaq Ahmad, Danial Aziz, Senator Saud Majeed and the chief secretary, IG police and the secretaries of the concerned departments attended the meeting.

In the meeting, different issues related to making the local body more efficient were discussed.

The chief minister while addressing the meeting said that the local body system is very useful for solving the problems of people at local level and its benefits have been proved. The local bodies are nurseries of the democracy and, the government has increased the resources of local bodies’ institutions to the billions of rupees through provincial finance commission award, he added.

Shehbaz Sharif said that the development budget of the local bodies’ has been increased to make them financially independent and their development budget would be enhanced further for the development projects.

He urged local bodies’ representatives to play an effective role in providing basic amenities to the people as well as solutions to their problems. After the setting up of local bodies, the development process has been accelerated and people have reposed their full confidence in the local bodies’ representatives and they should fulfil this trust.
