LAHORE: Dealer Vehicle Registration System (DVRS) has registered more than 6,000 new vehicles through 23 registered dealers online in the districts of Lahore, D G Khan, Rawalpindi and Multan since its launch in November 2016, which confirmed acceptance of the system by citizens.

An average new registration under this system in five districts of Punjab was noticed above 100 vehicles per day which was expected to increase with its expansion in other districts, said PITB spokesman on Saturday.

No one could now drive vehicle with “applied for” title after the introduction of this system, he warned.

He said that so far total revenue of Rs 63.988 million has been collected through the system against registration of 6,214 vehicles, which included 4936 motorbikes, 1055 cars, 181 commercial vehicles and 42 imported vehicles.

DVRS was a joint venture of Punjab Excise and Taxation Department and Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) for the elimination of the bogus and non-registered vehicles in Punjab province, and the project would soon be expanded to Bahawalpur and Faisalabad districts, he added.

He said that the new system has helped in reducing the late registration of vehicles and evasion of government tax on vehicles while facilitating citizens in fast registration.

All types of vehicles including motorbikes have been registered through this automated system and, buyers of new cars pay Rs 2000 and of motorbike Rs 500 extra to the dealer for this service, he maintained.

The spokesman added that DVRS has significantly minimised the use of vehicles with the forged number plates in acts of terrorism and had facilitated citizens by kerbing the malpractices, chances of corruption, bribe, elimination of agent mafia, long queues in vehicle registration process, delays and repeated visits.
