A Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker from Dera Ismail Khan has drawn outrage on social media for hunting endangered deer and birds.

According to pictures circulated on Twitter and Facebook on Thursday, MPA Samiullah Alizai and Mayor of Dera Ismail Khan Azizullah Alizai went on a grand hunt recently, killing an endangered Hog Deer and many birds.

The hog deer (Hyelaphus porcinus) is a small deer whose habitat ranges from Pakistan, through northern India, to mainland southeast Asia, which inhabits much of the Indo-Gangetic Plains of Pakistan, northern India, Nepal, Bangladesh, southwestern Yunnan Province in China, all the way to western Thailand.

It gets its name from the hog-like manner in which it runs through the forests with its head hung low so that it can duck under obstacles instead of leaping over them like most other deer.

The hunt angered citizens who called for action against the PTI leaders.

Some also referred to Imran Khan’s strong opposition to the hunting of Houbara Bustard by Gulf royals.
