APHC Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a Whatsapp message to API welcomed the British parliamentarians’ statement that the people of Kashmir should be given the right of self-determination in accordance with the provisions of the UN Security Council resolutions just like it was given to British people in the form of Brexit vote.
Mirwaiz said holding a referendum was the most transparent and democratic way to determine people’s will and give them a fair chance to express their choice. ‘It is a simple way of resolving disputes avoiding wars and human sufferings and moving towards peace and progress’.
Referring to outgoing US national security adviser Ms Susan’s warning that India and Pakistan’s constant skirmishes over Kashmir could lead to catastrophic scenarios globally, Mirwaiz said this recognition of the Kashmir dispute and its disastrous global ramifications made its resolution all the more urgent.
Mirwaiz said, ‘Let the better sense prevail upon the leadership of the Subcontinent and let us resolve the issue once for all and save our current and future generations from a life of uncertainty, mistrust and animosity’.
