The Afghan Dilemma

One of the toughest tests of diplomatic acumen in International relations is to have conducive relation with one’s neighbours which no country can change. Afghanistan has been a preoccupying neighbor for Pakistan since decades and it seems it will remain so. Civil and military leadership and people of Pakistan have always rendered their best political, logistic and diplomatic support to Afghanistan so that it may cope up with its complex perennial issues. Yet it is history that Afghan Government hurriedly blames Pakistan’s hand in any untoward happening in their country. The recent attack in the governor office compound in Kandahar resulting in scores of killing including UAE diplomats got the same cliché response from irresponsible and hostile Afghan Government. They blamed Pakistan’s ISI hand in it whereas; our civil and military leadership instantly condemned the attack. COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa directly called Ashraf Ghani to condole and to offer any possible support and Sartaj Aziz also visited Afghan embassy as a brotherly gesture. And befitting response came from UAE government which refused to buy blame game of Afghan Government and said that onus of this lethal security lapse is surely on Afghanistan.
