Food authority to monitor milk supply: minister

LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Food Bilal Yasin on Thursday ordered Punjab Food Authority to monitor the supply of milk to all major cities of the province.

The minister raided two milk producing factories at Okara while talking to media persons he said that detergents, chemicals and unhygienic material were being mixed with milk in these factories which is highly dangerous to human health, especially for children.

Okara Revenue ADC, Food Authority director general, Health Department officials were accompanying the food minister.

He said that those involved in mixing of chemicals and other unhygienic material in milk will be dealt with iron hand.

The minister ordered to seal these factories named Gujjar Dairies and Kashmir Diaries and an FIR has been registered against the factory owners.

He directed the officers of food authority to collect the sample for lab test and to waste 25000-litre unhygienic milk on the spot.

He said that Punjab Food Authority has been working round the clock to ensure the availability of healthy food and milk to the public and the department has started a campaign against the mafia involved in mixing of unhygienic chemicals across the province.

He informed that the department has been raiding the diaries and food factories to ensure the quality of food.
