Special Assistant to the Sindh Chief Minister for Special Education Zulfiqar Behan on Wednesday said that the government was making all-out efforts to impart quality education and training to disabled persons.

He said that non-governmental organisations and civil society are encouraged to join hands with the provincial government for this cause.

Behan handed over a cheque of Rs 2 million to the Family Education Services Foundation (FESF) in acknowledgement of their services in imparting quality education and vocational training to the deaf and dumb in various districts of the province, according to a statement released on Wednesday.

“They only need proper guidance and training. Parents and society must change their perception of considering them a burden”, Behan added.

He said that it was our collective responsibility to help disabled persons so that they were able to stand on their own feet and live respectful lives, adding that a number of welfare projects for disabled persons are being run successfully under the Private Public Partnership in Sindh.

Behan praised the efforts of the FESF and hoped that it will continue to serve disabled persons more effectively.

Earlier, FESF Operation Director Danieal Marc Lanthier informed the ceremony’s audience that the FESF is running schools in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Tando Allahyar, and Shaheed Benairabad, where approximately 1,200 students are currently enrolled and provided books, uniforms, vocational training, food, and transportation, free of cost.

He further added that the FESF also provides full job placement support to graduating students. “Due to our efforts, an international fast food chain has given job priority to our students,” Lanthier said.
