Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) Chairperson Marvi Memon on Wednesday said that the BISP is playing a vital role in reduction of poverty rate in the country and it has been declined seven points.
Talking to Radio Pakistan, she highlighted that the number of BISP beneficiaries has increased from 1.7 million to 5.4 million and the quarterly stipend increased from 3000 rupees to 4834 rupees during the present government’s tenure.
Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) led government has broadened its scope and improved its productivity and ensured timely release of quarterly payments, she added.
Marvi said that the government believes in strengthening of social safety net in line with commitment to Islamic welfare state.
The chairperson said the 80 per cent of fund is being used on food by the beneficiaries, adding that the BISP is also striving to improve enrolment of children in schools.
