Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre’s 52nd annual symposium starts

Sindh Minister for Health Dr Sikandar Mandhro has said that postgraduate trainee slots will be increased by one hundred at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

Addressing the inaugural session of the 52nd annual medical symposium of the JPMC here on Monday, the minister appreciated the efforts of the JPMC for holding such events and said that it will benefit young doctors.

Speaking on the occasion, JPMC Executive Director Dr Seemi Jamali said that the JPMC is one of the leading tertiary care hospitals of the country. She said that the 1610 bedded hospital was providing excellent medical care to a large segment of society.

Dr Seemi Jamali while demanding an increase in the number of trainee doctors, said “We have a total of 2,646 regularly employed doctors, nurses, and other support staff. Enhancing the strength of existing trainee doctors, nurses and paramedics is crucial to the provision of better services.”

She also requested the minister for the approval of the construction of 200 apartments for JPMC staff.

Later, a plenary session of the symposium was also held, which was addressed by former senator Javed Jabbar, Prof Aijaz Ahmed, Dr Shumail Ashraf and Dr Sadiqa Jafferi. JPMC Executive Director Dr

Different pharmaceutical companies and labs established camps for the visitors of the symposium for promoting their products.  Prominent among them were Novartis, Oxidil, Surgical Sutures, Dr Essa Lab, Indus Pharma, Chugtai Labs, and Getz Pharma.

The medical symposium will continue till January 19 during which 40 pre-symposium workshops and 28 scientific sessions will be held.

Health Additional Secretary Aslam Pechuho, JPMC Symposium Chairperson Prof Sughra Perveen, Chairman Academic Council and Dean Prof Nadeem Rizvi, NICVD Executive Director Prof Nadeem Qamar, NICH Director Prof Jamal Raza and others were also present at the inaugural session.
