NEW DELHI: A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) soldier named Suresh Gaikwad allegedly committed suicide Monday (today) morning by shooting himself using his service rifle at Kempe Gowda Airport in Bengaluru, according to reports.
According to The Financial Express, the incident took place this morning as Gaikwad was performing his duties at the airport.
The incident took place just days after a paramilitary soldier from one of India’s elite security units had shot dead four of his senior dead on Thursday in an apparent row over leaves in Bihar’s Naxal-hit Aurangabad district.
Constable Balveer Singh, from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, fired around two dozen bullets, killing Head Constables Bachha Sharma and Amarnath Mishra on the spot, while Assistant Sub-Inspector GS Ram and Head Constable Arvind Kumar later succumbed to their injuries in a nearby hospital.
It is also important to mention here that Gaikwad’s suicide also come to light a day after a Sikh soldier posted a video on social media in which he unveiled poor conditions of soldiers deputed at border.
Last year, Indian Army Major Anita Kumari, 36, allegedly committed suicide by shooting herself with her service pistol on December 15.
India’s security forces have historically had a high incidence of suicides and killings linked to long hours, poor working conditions and inadequate time off.
