Crack down continues against substandard drugs

ISLAMABAD: Inspection teams of Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) raided different manufacturing units and pharmacies in various cities and took stern action against those involved in the manufacture and sale of illegal medicines.

A raid was conducted on Farook son Rawalpindi, and its premises was sealed due to poor storage practices, absence of proper racks and pellets, unhygienic conditions, non-monitoring record of temperature and humidity.

Samples of different drugs like paracetamol syrup, ibuprofen syrup, piroxicam capsules, magnesium hydroxide suspension, purported to be manufactured by Hassain Pharmaceuticals Karachi were sent to central Drugs Testing Laboratory Karachi for test/analysis purpose.

Pharmacy 24 and Ali medical centre of F-8 markaz Islamabad were also inspected, whereas, Khan medical store was sealed on violation of Drug Act, 1976.

Four persons were arrested by Humak police due to illegal manufacturing of the therapeutic goods.

Arzik Labs Faisalabad was involved in illegal manufacturing of Herbal product and was sealed by FID Faisalabad. The firm later applied for de-sealing before the drug court Faisalabad. The case was argued strongly but the honourable court dismissed the application.

Miss Saira Afzal Tarar, State Minister of National Health Services Regulation and Coordination, directed to take stern action against culprits involved in this heinous crime.
