CJP takes notice of jirga in Ghotki, seeks report

Chief Justice of Pakistan  Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday took suo-moto notice of decision of a jirga (village council) held in Ghotki and sought report from Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ghotki in 48 hours.

Ali Hasan, a resident of district Ghotki, sent an application to SC’s Human Right Cell alleging that some influential people of the Mazari tribe held a jirga and imposed a fine worth Rs 300,000 on the applicant. He said if he is not able to pay the amount, his 3-year old daughter will be taken away and married off to one of those people.

He requested the court to ensure protection of his daughter and take action against the jirga.
