The Cabinet Committee on Anti-Corruption Establishment Law Reforms on Tuesday finalised its recommendations for making the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) more effective.

The special committee met on Tuesday at the Civil Secretariat under the chairmanship of Punjab Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Shamail Ahmad Khwaja.

The committee has been assigned the terms of reference (ToRs) to remove anomalies and existing shortcomings in the relevant rules pertaining to the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment.

It was noted in the meeting that Article 119 and 142 of the Constitution of Pakistan allow provincial assemblies to legislate against criminal offenses related to money flowing out of the Provincial Consolidated Fund.

ACS Khwaja hoped that the new draft law, after approval from the provincial cabinet and the Punjab Assembly, would help eliminate corruption and bribery in a manner commensurate with international benchmarks of good governance and help prevent the National Accountability Bureau from trespassing into the jurisdiction of the Punjab ACE.

The meeting was attended by ACE Law Officer Saadia Aziz, Secretary Services Farhan Aziz Khwaja, Secretary Prosecution Ali Murtaza, S&GAD Deputy Secretary (Estab) Sidrah Yunis, ACE Director General Brig (r) Muzaffar Ali Ranjha, Punjab Additional Advocate General Imtiaz Kaifi, ACE Director Naveed Shahzad Mirza, Law Deputy Secretary Abid Raza, and Law Additional Director Muhammad Naeem Khan.
