Provincial Minister for Primary and Secondary Health Khwaja Imran Nazir paid a surprise visit to District Headquarter South City Hospital Okara on Saturday night. The minister went to different departments and wards of the hospital and was amazed to see that there were only two doctors on duty in the 125-bed hospital.

The minister expressed his displeasure over the situation and directed for the patients to be shifted to another hospital. It was disclosed that the patients had been told to purchase medicine from outside the hospital despite their availability at the hospital.

Kh Imran Nazir asked for the purchase record of the medicines, but it was not available. The minister directed the Okara deputy commissioner Okara to immediately to start an inquiry into the absence of doctors, purchase of medicines by the patients from the market despite their availability in the hospital, and other administrative affairs, and to submit a report to him within 48 hours.

He said that the government is providing all out resources for the treatment of patients, and therefore not having anyone to look after the patients is intolerable.

He said that action will be taken against those responsible in light of the inquiry report.
