The Lahore City Traffic Police challaned 38,000 underage drivers for violating traffic rules during 2016.

DIG Traffic Ahmad Mobeen disclosed this in a press statement issued here on Saturday.

He urged parents to prevent their children from using cars and motorcycles without a licence and without the maturity need to be on the road. “Underage driving can cause loss of life to these children, as well as others on the road,” the statement said.

The City Traffic Police raised awareness of traffic laws in different schools, colleges and universities and distributed pamphlets during the last month, targeting 15,000 youths, the DIG stated.

He said that all SPs and DSPs had been directed to visit educational institutions on a daily basis and educate the youth about traffic laws.

“The campaign against juvenile traffic violation will continue,” he added.
