West Yorkshire Police shot dead a Pakistani-origin man on a motorway. He was identified as Yassar Yaqub.

Media reports said the 28-year-old father of two, Mohammed Yassar Yaqub was shot during a ‘pre-planned’ police operation.

Police said a force firearm was discharged just off the M62 in Huddersfield on Monday evening. Later, police searched Yaqub’s home in Rudding Street, Huddersfield and arrested five persons.

A gun has been found in the car he was travelling in when he was shot dead.

His death is being investigated. “What appears to be a non-police issue firearm was discovered in the vehicle in which Yaqub was travelling, and is being further examined,” police said.

Yaqub was from the Crosland Moor area of Huddersfield, where his father is a well-known businessman.
