2,453 dengue cases detected across Sindh in 2016

As many as 2,452 dengue fever cases were reported in Sindh in 2016, out of them 1,984 were detected in Karachi alone, while dengue claimed three lives during the same year.

The Prevention and Control Programme for Dengue in Sindh’s annual report said that a total 2,452 dengue cases were detected from Sindh province in 2016, out of which 1,984 were reported from Karachi. A total of three deaths were reported from dengue fever in the province last year out of which two from Karachi and one from Shaheed Benazirabad, while another death was caused by dengue fever in the city.

In 2016, a total of 2,452 dengue fever cases were reported in Sindh province from 1st January to December 31, 2016, out of which 1,984 were detected from Karachi, 257 from Mithi or Tharparkar, 141 from Hyderabad, 12 from Sukkur, 8 from Tando Muhammad Khan, 7 from Ghotki, 6 from Larkana, 5 each from Mirpurkhas & Khairpur, 4 each from Naushero Feroz, Umer Kot & Shikarpur, 3 each from Thatta, Dadu & Shaheed Benazirabad, 2 each from Badin, Jamshoro and Sanghar.

At least 30 new dengue fever cases surfaced in Sindh province from December 23 to 31, 2016, out of which 22 were reported in Karachi, five in Hyderabad and three in Mithi and Tharparkar.

In 2015, a total of 3,692 dengue fever cases were reported across Sindh, out of which 3,596 were reported from Karachi alone, while the dreadful disease claimed 11 lives in Karachi.
