Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar convened a meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday to brief him over the raids of the paramilitary Rangers in Karachi.

The minister told the prime minister that the Rangers conducted raids on the offices of an insurance company on the basis of solid evidence.

The federal minister denied any political angle to the raids that were conducted on the day Asif Ali Zardari, the co-chairman of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), returned to the country.

Nisar deemed the clarification fit to be conveyed as the insurance company belonged to a close friend of Zardari. The meeting also discussed the overall security situation in the country.

GOVT HAS NO ROLE IN RAIDS:

Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb said the government had no role in the raids in Karachi.

Talking to a private TV channel, the minister said that the raids and arrests in Karachi were part of a routine work. She also argued that the operation in Karachi had been started in 2013.

Marriyum said that the raids in Karachi had nothing to do with the government as the decision regarding arrests, raids and operations were made by the Sindh Apex Committee led by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. Marriyum said the political parties should not support criminal elements.
