Punjab govt’s campaign against child labour running successfully: minister

Punjab Labour and Human Resource Minister Raja Ashfaq Sarwar, on Thursday, said that the government earmarked Rs 449 for the elimination of child labour from the province.

“The initiative of Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to eliminate child labour from different sectors will help out to promote education in the vulnerable section of society,” he added.

Talking to a delegation, he said crackdowns were made at brick kilns, workshops, petrol pumps, hotels, restaurants, and other areas to eliminate child labour.

He said new labour colonies and hospitals had been built in different cities of the province for industrial workers.

Sarwar said after a successful campaign against child labour, more than 70 thousand children had been enrolled in the non-formal basic education centres and skill training centres.
