Pakistani embassy in Cairo has extended its full support to 18 stranded Pakistani sailors on board MV AKKAZ in the Red Sea.

The ship, owned by a Kuwaiti company and chartered by a Dutch firm, set sail from Abu Dhabi on August 11 destined for Port Said and Alexandria in Egypt, and a port in Netherlands.

It reached Suez waters on October 13 , but was not allowed to enter Suez Canal due to mechanical failure and expiry of technical licence.

The embassy is now in touch with the captain of the ship and one of its officers has also visited the stranded sailors to ensure their welfare, a statement said.

All arrangements for their repatriation have been made and now it’s up to the captain and crew to decide when to leave for Pakistan, it added.
